Why Go Cruelty-free in the First Place?

Lesson 1

Going cruelty-free in 2021 can seem like a daunting task. In the twenty-first century, there is a plethora of information available, and it can be difficult to sort through all of it. When it comes to going cruelty-free, you need to be diligent.

Being cruelty-free, however, does not have to be an arduous task. It can be a smooth process once you know what to look for and how to do it. Going cruelty-free is a rewarding experience. Read on to find out how you can begin your journey to become cruelty-free in 2021 with this ultimate guide.

Going Cruelty-Free in 2021: What You Need to Know

As with any life change decision, there is a lot to consider before you begin. The first, and probably most important, question you will ask yourself is why are you doing it?

The fact is that many companies, in household products, food, and cosmetics, are still tested on animals. This is why we have seen such a spike in animal advocacy groups in recent years. Most people probably do not think about the process each product takes before it gets onto the shelf.

It also applies to the food that you eat. Many farms do not have the best-quality conditions for the number of animals they have. As a result, the animals can be subjected to harsh living conditions, which is neither fair nor right.

You want to help the cause. You want to be a part of the solution, so you are deciding to take the plunge and go cruelty-free in 2021. It is a great first step. The most important step is deciding to begin.

Products Are Still Tested on Animals in 2021

As mentioned, in today’s world, there are still many products being tested on animals. This does not mean that only the final product is tested on animals. Every product goes through a long process before it gets approved for sale, and a lot of the testing happens during this time.

Cosmetics are one of the biggest culprits heard about in the news about not being cruelty-free. What exactly are companies doing to the animals? In many cases, they are practicing outdated forms of experimentation. The Human Society International mentions how the following practices are still implemented today:

  • Lethal dose tests on rodents (developed in the 1920s)
  • Eye and skin tests on rabbits (developed in the 1940s)
  • Skin allergy tests on guinea pigs (developed in the 1950s)

These tests are all at least seventy years old, and in the case of the lethal dose test, over one hundred years old! These methods are outdated. These animals, once tested on, are killed and disposed of.

The Benefits of Going Cruelty-Free

There are safe, alternative methods to test products in 2021, and many brands are already implementing them. As a result, it is easier than ever before to make the switch to being cruelty-free, especially in 2021.

There are several benefits to going cruelty-free. As you begin your journey you find that going cruelty-free offers you the following:

  • Healthier options. In general, products, whether food or not, that are cruelty-free are healthier. They most likely do not have dangerous chemicals included. When you go cruelty-free you can rest easy knowing you are benefiting your body with a healthier alternative.
  • Help animals around the world. All around the world, animals are still being tested on by large companies. This should not continue, which is probably one of the reasons you are deciding to take this journey. By going cruelty-free in 2021, you are helping the cause. You are becoming part of a community that is taking action to stop these outdated practices.
  • Help change the marketplace for the better. The fact is that money talks. Companies prefer to use animal testing because, generally speaking, it is cheaper than alternatives. However, if enough people change to being cruelty-free then these companies will notice when they start losing money.

Going cruelty-free will help you feel better on a day-to-day basis. You are helping the environment, helping the animals, and helping yourself.

In the next lessons we take you through the exact steps you need to follow to help you go cruelty-free.
