Is Heimish Cruelty-Free and Vegan in 2023?

Heimish offers products that complement and highlight natural beauty with Korean skincare and makeup lines. But like us, you might be confused about their cruelty-free and vegan policies.

Heimish is cruelty-free but not 100% vegan, meaning some products contain animal-derived ingredients. It does not conduct animal testing on its products or distribute cosmetics where animal testing is required by law.
If you’ve heard anything about Heimish, it’s probably about their cult favorite All Clean Balm. But that’s not all the brand has to offer; Heimish has grown massively in popularity since its opening in 2016.

Like all Korean cosmetic brands, the goal is hydrated, and natural skin and Heimish follows suit. They offer modern and trendy products that are effective, and they claim to be cruelty-free.

But Heimish isn’t as transparent with their cruelty-free policies as we should expect from brands.

Can they truly be trusted as a cruelty-free brand with vegan products?

Heimish’s cruelty-free status is a bit complicated as they don’t have any official statements on their policies.

This puts them in a bit of a grey area, but currently, nothing suggests that they aren’t 100% cruelty-free.

Heimish is also not owned by a parent company that tests on animals.

Does Heimish Test on Animals?

Heimish doesn’t have a history of testing on animals.

While they don’t have any official statements on their animal testing policies, Heimish does not sell in mainland China, and animal testing is banned in Korea.

The lack of an official statement is concerning, but it isn’t normal for Korean skincare brands to include one on their website.

What Is Heimish’s Cruelty-Free Status in 2023?

Heimish has no official statement regarding its cruelty-free policies and vegan products on its website or social media. After reaching out, we still haven’t received a response from the brand.

Heimish Has No Cruelty-Free Certification

Without a cruelty-free certification from a credible company; it makes claims harder to believe.

Heimish is known as a cruelty-free brand from many sources online, but without a clear statement from the brand and certification to prove it – we have to ask ourselves why?

Ideally, all brands that consider themselves cruelty-free should be Leaping Bunny certified.

While you might know PETA very well – it surprisingly doesn't hold the strictest cruelty-free regulations. Leaping Bunny certification is the gold standard to live up to.

Is Heimish Sold Where Animal Testing is Required By Law?

Heimish does not distribute any of its products to China or any country that requires animal testing on cosmetics by law.

China has a shocking track record. It is the country with the most animal testing globally, with over 20 million animals used per year.

However, if you live in China or are concerned about its cruel beauty policies, there are a couple of loopholes.

Heimish is Not Vegan

Heimish isn’t 100% vegan, but the brand does have a couple of vegan products to try out that are easy to find.

Some of the most common animal-derived ingredients that Heimish uses are: carmine, collagen, and hydrolyzed silk

Heimish is Considered Natural but not Organic

Heimish is considered a natural brand, they use many naturally derived ingredients in all of their products which all have their unique effects.

But while they do use natural ingredients, Heimish does still use synthetics to make sure their products are hypoallergenic and safe for everyone to use.

All products use a certain amount of synthetic ingredients in their formulas. Heimish is no exception – but it does choose to use better or clean synthetics. If a synthetic ingredient is "clean," it means it is safe and non-toxic for us. Its purpose is to preserve the stability of a beauty formulation.

Heimish Has An 82 – 100% Allergen-Free Ranking

According to Skin Safe; Heimish has an 82 – 100% allergen-free ranking for three products.

Many of Heimish’s products are free of allergens such as fragrance, gluten, coconut, nickel, top common allergy-causing preservatives, lanolin, paraben, topical antibiotic, MCI/MI, soy, propylene glycol, oil, irritant/acid, and SLS.

Heimish has also leveled up their game by being completely hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.

However, we recommend reading a product’s ingredient list before purchasing, as formulas can be subject to change.

The EU/UK Have Stricter Ingredient Regulations

We don’t want to scare you, but you HAVE to read up on any product’s ingredient list before you make a purchase – especially if you live within the United States.

The reason why will shock you.

The FDA has only banned or restricted 11 harmful chemicals from cosmetics within the country. Europe and the UK, on the other hand, have banned 1,328!

Luckily, Heimish sets a great example of what true clean beauty is meant to be, and you shouldn’t have to worry about any serious hidden nasties in its products.

With skincare and cosmetics, you want to avoid these ingredients:

  • Ethoxylated ingredients (PPG, PEG, and polysorbate)
  • Ethanolamine compounds (DEA, MEA, and TEA)
  • Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, aka teflon®)
  • Propylene glycol (pg) & butylene glycol
  • DMDM Hydantoin
  • Triclosan

Heimish Has Some Sustainable & Ethical Initiatives

Heimish doesn’t currently have any public information on any social causes they support.

It's no secret that the world has a huge waste problem, and cosmetic brands only make it worse by using unsustainable packaging and harmful ingredients.

Like Heimish’s lack of social support, the brand has made no effort to get any sustainability initiatives going. The brand doesn’t market itself as sustainable or have a big ‘green’ image.

Final Thoughts

Heimish has given us little to work with in terms of its policies and initiatives.

They claim their products are cruelty-free, and some are vegan, but they haven’t made any clear statements on what their cruelty-free policy is.

From what we do know – Heimish doesn’t sell in mainland China, and since they are Korean-made, they are not doing any animal testing themselves. This grey area they have put themselves in is concerning, but there is no evidence that they aren’t cruelty-free up to this point.

Overall, the brand needs to work on its transparency with its buyers. If they are truly proud of their cruelty-free status, they need to clarify it and get certification to prove it.
